Bernhard Teufl

Music has been part of Bernhard’s life since childhood. Growing up in Koppl, just outside Salzburg, singing and making music together were a natural part of family life, and he learned several instruments before discovering his true passion for singing at the age of twenty. He studied voice for many years at the Musikum Salzburg, completing his training with distinction, and later continued his studies with Professor Monika Lenz and through masterclasses with Professor Kurt Widmer. Today, he continues his vocal development with Professor Bernd Valentin at the Mozarteum University Salzburg.

As a freelance tenor, Bernhard’s repertoire ranges from sacred music and concerts to staged opera productions and Lieder recitals, with Schubert’s song cycles holding a particularly special place in his artistic life. His defining stage role, however, has been Josef at the Salzburger Adventsingen in Salzburg’s Great Festival Hall. Beginning in 2007, Bernhard portrayed the role for 18 years and appeared in almost 250 performances, becoming a familiar voice and presence in one of Salzburg’s most celebrated cultural traditions.

Bernhard also brings extensive experience from Salzburg productions connected with The Sound of Music. His familiarity with this musical world, combined with his deep personal connection to Salzburg, makes him a natural fit for the Sound of Maria ensemble. Unlike a performer simply visiting the city, Bernhard shares the perspective of someone who grew up with Salzburg’s music, traditions and landscapes. On selected Sound of Maria experiences, he brings this connection to life through music, warmth and a genuine sense of place, joining Dana Hammett, Victoria Browers and Dmitry Iogman as part of weTours’ professional vocal ensemble.
