This one-day tour impressively combines Nature with Culture. From the world-renowned sights of the city of Salzburg to idyllic alpine pastures, and from cozy alpine lodges to breathtaking overlooks, this tour leaves nothing to be desired!
Our “Salzburg Panorama Tour“ takes you from the Paris Lodron Strasse (1) past the Mirabell Palace, the International Mozarteum Foundation, the Marionette Theater, the Salzburg State Theater and out to Maria Plain (2), the 400-year-old basilica north of the city. Thousands of pilgrims make their way to this energetic site every year, which also lies along the world-famous Camino de Santiago, also known as the Way of St. James. Sublime morning light bathes a panoramic view of Salzburg’s Old and New Towns and the hills rising within this picturesque city.
The tour then takes us to the baroque palace Schloss Klessheim (3), which originally served as a prince archbishop’s pleasure palace and was later used by Hitler to receive guests. Passing the Red Bull Arena (4) – the UEFA home stadium of the FC Red Bull Salzburg football (soccer) team – our route takes us to Hangar 7 (5). This structure represents the fulfillment of a unique concept: Superlative architecture for the exhibition of a private collection of aircraft and art, as well as to house a restaurant featuring culinary world tours with a new star chef every month. After a brief stopover at Hangar 7, we will move on to a photo stop at the famous palace Schloss Leopoldskron (6).
Finally, our route takes us back through the Sigmundstor tunnel into the heart of Salzburg’s historic Old Town. There, we’ll ride a modern lift up onto the Mönchsberg (7), where a viewing platform offers stunning panoramic views of the City of Mozart and the mountain realm beyond. Along the way, we’ll pass the “Pferdeschwemme” (“Horse Pool” from the 17th C.) and learn fascinating facts about St. Peter’s Abbey, the Salzburg Cathedral and the venues of the Salzburg Festival, where the world’s rich and famous attend this renowned annual music festival.
We’ll then drive through the Old Town and along the Rudolfskai on the Salzach River, passing Mozartplatz and the city’s imposing courthouse, riding out to see the country manors known as the Gwandhaus and the Frohnburg (8). In the film “The Sound of Music“, Maria dances along the tree-lined Hellbrunner Allee and arrives at the Frohnburg to meet the Trapp family for the first time. Before heading up onto the Gaisberg, we’ll stop at Hellbrunn Palace (9) to admire its picturesque parklands. This is also where the world-famous gazebo from the film “The Sound of Music” now stands.
The drive up the Gaisberg (10) is the extraordinary highpoint and namesake of the “Salzburg Panorama Tour.” The Gaisberg’s summit rises to 1287 meters elevation and offers unequaled panoramic views. Savor a perfect end to this busy day by relaxing in the romantic evening light on the Zistel Alm’s lovely terrace.
