Schloss Leopoldskron served as a film set for the world-famous movie “The Sound of Music.”
Our stop at Hellbrunn Palace with its impressively landscaped parklands is another highlight of our tour. This is where the world-famous gazebo from the film “The Sound of Music” now stands.
The tour ends at Mozart’s Residence.
Starting in the Paris Lodron Strasse (1), the tour takes us past the Mozarteum University (one of the world’s most renowned music conservatories), the Mirabell Palace, the Marionette Theater, the International Mozarteum Foundation, the Salzburg State Theater and over the “Staatsbrücke” (State Bridge) into the very heart of the city’s historic Old Town. There, we’ll board a modern elevator and ascend the Mönchsberg (2) in just 30 seconds. The viewing platform up top will provide you with an incredible view of the City of Mozart with an enormous alpine panorama rising behind it. The tour then heads back down and through the Sigmundstor tunnel to Schloss Leopoldskron (3), which also served as a film set for the world-famous movie “The Sound of Music.” Along the way, we’ll pass the “Pferdeschwemme” (where the Prince Archbishops’ carriage horses cooled off in the 17th-18th centuries) and also learn fascinating facts about St. Peter’s Abbey and the Salzburg Cathedral.
We’ll also pass through the Festival District and its venues. This is where the magic of the world-renowned Salzburg Festival happens. The world’s political leaders and the rich and famous pass through these doors every year as they arrive for performances. Our stop at Hellbrunn Palace (4) with its impressively landscaped parklands is another highlight of our tour. This is where the world-famous gazebo from the film “The Sound of Music” now stands. The return trip to Mozart‘s Residence (5) will take us through the Nonntal district.
